Evaluation of Website

The website I have selected to evaluate is titled "The Partnership for 21st Century Skills". The website serves as a catalyst for the acquisition of 21st century skills necessary for the k-12 education. They accomplish this by building collaboration between education, business, community, and government leaders.
The website was easy to navigate for this naive, technological challenged educator. It offered numerous ideas from various states to incorporate into undergraduate curriculum.
The negative for me included not being applicable to my setting within the college educational arena. Most of the students that I interact with a computer experts. I need to access a web site to address my personal needs as a nurse educator.
The value of this website to the 21st century education attention to:
  • information and communication skills
  • thinking and problem solving
  • interpersonal and self-direction skills
  • global awareness
  • financial, economic, and business skills
  • civic literacy

I recommend this website for the novice to expert educator. It will enhance the capabilities of the educator within the classroom and further the knowledge base.

  2. Today I learned new information about websites. For example, I did not know how the address' for the websites are set up. I feel pretty confident that I can break down a web address and determine validity prior to investing time searching the website.
Also learned about confirming the publisher of the website. This is valuable information to relay to my students to validate the publisher of the website. As I have discovered in the past not all websites contain the information they say they do. Also this information will assist in validating a reliable site and hopefully blocking sites that students do not need to view.
I will include the URL so that you may learn for yourself.

  3. Again I have learned some new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom setting for nursing students. I have created my own search engine on google. I always thought it was difficult to create these pages and that I needed a college degree to accomplish this task. Through the classwork in this course I have discovered it is really easy and the average bedside nurse is able to convey her knowledge and hopefully help the nursing students and others that may visit the site.

  4. Just visited the youtube.com site and viewed the video "A Vision of K-12 Students Today". The information was delivered in a format that causes you to stop and think about todays student. The student of today is quite different than the 20th Century student. They present to the classroom with a set of different challenges and dreams of what is to come. They must still be schooled in the basics reading, writing, and rithmetic. But the educator of today must step out of the box to challenge the student to expand the basics and be able to function in the ever emerging 21st century. The students of the United States must be given the opportunity to learn and develop knowledge to compete with other students from other countries. It is sad to think that China has a greater number of honor students than the U.S. This must change since with cyberspace the students of the U.S. are now able to interact with students from other countries.

  5. After viewing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuBwu33amnc&feature=related

I have discovered it is important to challenge our students in different ways. What may work for one student will not work the next. As educators we must be open to employing different methods to convey the same information. This is shown by searching the web for accurate and up-to-date information. The basic ability to complete an accurate search to gather information is an important concept to instill the very basic level of education.
